Noni is the name of a South Sea fruit that can be found throughout the Polynesian-Pacific region. It was used by the indigenous people of Polynesia for the plant Morinda citrifolia L. and is still used today.
This plant (also known as "Indian Mulberry") was probably originally introduced by seafarers from South East Asia when they colonized the scattered islands of the Pacific. Today it can still be found in all populated regions, which indicates that it was once deliberately spread by humans. Practically every island and every country has its own name for noni. The plant was traditionally used as a versatile foodstuff.
